Architectural Design

The scale and scope of design project is expanded in 5th Semester. Students are trained to design Multiple Dwellings, Housing Projects, their Layouts and infrastructure development is also explained. They are introduced to aspects of Sociology, Housing related issues etc.

Design Workshop on “Historicity and Modernity: Intervention in the Historic Core, Mahal of Nagpur through AYUSH KENDRA” by Ar. SHIRISH BERI, Kolhapur

Date – 16th -18th August 2018

Design workshop on the theme ‘Historicity and Modernity’ was conducted for the fifth semester students by the World renowned Architect , Mr. Shirish Beri. This workshop was the part of their design project, AYUSH Kendra which was identified on the theme, Historicity and Modernity. The design concept being the initiation and very important part of this particular project, it was encouraged among students through this workshop.

The workshop was conducted for three days, from 16th August to 18th August 2018. Ar. Shirish Beri discussed and gave his critical review over the students’ idea of concept and concept evolution. Discussion on the study of Mahal as historic core of Nagpur was held on the first day. Remaining two days were totally dedicated to the concept evolution and the varied approaches to manifest the concepts.

It was a very fruitful workshop as Ar. Beri discussed on almost every idea generated by students and discussed the varied ways of evolving concept.

Exhibition of students study on Mahal, Nagpur as a part of design studio “Historicity and Modernity” and interaction with Prof. Snehal Shah

The students were encouraged to come up with solutions to revitalize informal squatter settlement of Kachipura which is a notified slum of Nagpur. The aim of this Design Studio was to encourage students to come up with solutions for Kachipura squatter settlement (slum) based on sustainable community model. The main objective was to study various characteristics to understand social issues related to squatter settlements and address the growing demand for affordable urban housing.
